Meaning of Life?

What is the meaning of life? Are we just mere organisms inhabiting this vast world with no purpose but to contribute to the survival of our species? This question has bugged me for the past nine months. To find the answer I read and watched philosophical books and videos. In my quest to search for meaning in my life I came to know about a philosopher named Albert Camus. According to him, life is meaningless and that we should give meaning to our lives. This idea was really interesting but I could not provide my life with any meaning. After all, I am an average student from a small town who has not achieved much in life except occasional good marks. So, I kept reading more books since I was not satisfied.

A month later I read about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in a book called "Mastery". While reading about him I found that he had a deep sense of purpose in his life which can be seen from this sentence he wrote to his father: "I am a composer... I neither can nor ought to bury the talent for composition with which God in his goodness has so richly endowed me". I also found a similar sense of purpose in Ada Lovelace about whom I read in "Innovators". In a letter, she wrote to her mother she said: "If he has transmitted to me any portion of that genius, I would use it to bring great truths and principles. I think he has bequeathed this task to me. I have this feeling strongly, and there is a pleasure attending it". This sense of purpose was felt by many successful people like Leonardo Da Vinci, Buckminster Fuller and many others.

According to me, more than a sense of meaning in our lives we need a sense of deep purpose. I think we should blindly believe that we have a purpose. To explain what I mean by "deep purpose", here is an extract from "Mastery": "At your birth, a seed is planted. That seed is your uniqueness. It wants to grow, transform itself, and flower to its full potential. It has natural, assertive energy to it. Your Life's Task is to bring that seed to flower, to express your uniqueness through your work. You have a destiny to fulfil. The stronger you feel and maintain it—as a force, a voice, or in whatever form—the greater your chance for fulfilling this Life's Task and achieving mastery". According to me, we all have something to give to this world, however big or small, before we depart.

I am no philosopher and what I wrote above are my personal opinions. I wrote about this topic because I think the model of life we hold in our minds have a big impact on who we become in the future.
